Drawn by the decent wages, Brandon Wong joined CAMBUS—the university's public-transit system—as a driver when he was a junior psychology major and Hawkeye student-athlete. After spending several months behind the wheel of a 14-ton bus, he was ready for a change—and had put in enough driving and bus-cleaning time to earn it. Though he had no prior experience with engines, Wong landed the coveted position of student mechanic and completed a three-week training, shadowing other students to learn the trade.

University of Iowa Parking and Transportation has redeveloped the Van Pool Management System and My Van Pool portal because the previous system language has become obsolete. All the improvements made will help quicken the waitlist process and make program membership more efficient. The improved management system and member portal is available for faculty and staff use beginning Feb. 23, 2021.

The fall 2020 semester has been unlike any Hawkeyes have experienced in our university’s 173-year history. Supplying University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics with clean, sterile linens is vital, especially during a public health crisis. Having enough healthy delivery drivers to match the potential surges related to COVID-19 is just as vital.

In the wee hours of the morning—on a Saturday, no less—a request for help came in: University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics needed 20,000+ face shields to help protect its health care staff from being infected with COVID-19.

Over the course of the last year, The University of Iowa Parking and Transportation department has been developing a fresh, updated initiative encouraging those in the community to consider alternate transportation options as part of the ‘Unpark Yourself’ campaign. The Unpark Yourself campaign is rooted in making the transportation of those in our community easier, and more efficient.

The University of Iowa’s new Shared Services structure is helping departments fill open positions more quickly, train new employees, and more easily fill gaps during prolonged staffing absences.
