The week of March 18, 2024, UI CAMBUS is recognizing its student employees for their commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation. CAMBUS student drivers and student support staff over the past year continued to excel, innovate, and take on new challenges to deliver exceptional service to campus.

Construction of a new road connecting Newton Road to the University of Iowa Health Care university campus is underway. The south end of the road will extend between Hospital Parking Ramp 1 and the General Hospital pavilion, ending at the site of the current fountain entrance. Along Newton Road, a roundabout will be installed north of the Center for Disabilities and Development and west of the Hardin Library for Health Sciences.

CAMBUS staff attended the annual IPTA state conference and bus roadeo June 5 – 8 in Ames hosted by CyRide. The conference provides an opportunity for public transportation leaders to connect and attend various training sessions.

The new Parking Lot 14 has reopened and is located north of Melrose Avenue just east of the previous lot. The new parking lot will help provide additional parking on the West Campus throughout the 10-year facilities master plan.

Campus Safety is rolling out several updates to its Nite Ride service in an effort to decrease wait times and expand safety services on campus.

If you are looking for a ride back home, the newly revived UI Rideshare can help connect you with a fellow student going in the same direction. UI Rideshare is a resource that connects people to share their commute and is now available as an app in addition to a website.

Two frequently used Campus Safety services have moved to the first floor of UCC in an effort to make them more visible to the campus community. As of Monday, Nov. 6, both Lost and Found and Fingerprinting Services are being offered out of 139 UCC, located on the first floor in the suite next to Student Disability Services.

The first new road to be built on campus in more than a decade will connect Newton Road to the fountain entrance of University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, a project necessary to make way for construction of the new inpatient tower.

The University of Iowa plans to remodel and expand the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories—one of its most unique buildings—to create a permanent home for a fast-growing program of study.
